Fleas are usually small external parasites on mammals and birds that survive by consuming the blood of their hosts in this case the mammals. This insects are usually small and don’t fly and the adults are about 3mm long. Fleas are not of the same type but comprise of a variety of them all around the world. Cat fleas are common and generally they are found on cats but it’s possible for them to attack dogs and even humans. There is another type of flea which has affinity towards the chicken and are therefore referred to as chicken fleas. Usually you will find them with their heads buried in the skin of chickens near the face or head. At first it would appear like the chicken have black heads on their head or face but a closer look reveals that the chicken are infected with chicken fleas.Sand fleas usually feed on organic and withering plants but could attach themselves to pets where they can feed on their blood too. This means that pets are the suitable way for sand fleas to find their way to your home.

Fleas can consume about 15times their own body weight in blood hence can cause anemia or a significant amount of blood loss in time.
